Thanks to all that have read and followed my stamping blog over the last few years. As my life adventures have changed, it's time to shut down the blog and say good night. I'll keep the blog up for a few more months for reference but I won't be posting anymore. With more and more of my time devoted to helping tennis boy achieve his goals, my time for stamping is much reduced.

I've enjoyed getting to meet so many new people and I look forward to more stamping in a few years.

I can't believe that it's been almost a month since I last posted- it has been a crazy time between work, tennis and trying to squeeze in some stamping. Here's a quick update and I will try to post something at least once a week!!

First, VC rocks is back in full force- you still have a few days to sign up for this incredible Virtual Convention of all things Stampin' Up. Join the hotel and meet a new stamping friend, sign up for one of many swaps and just enjoy the camaraderie of virtual stamping friends. To join in the fun, just look for the vcrocks yahoogroup!

To give you an idea of some of the swaps, here's what I have signed up for so far- if I get my swaps done before Tuesday, I'm signing up for more. Swap deadline to join is June 8 and all swaps are due July 8.

My swaps:

One Sheet Wonder (stamp backgrounds on a sheet of 8.x5 x 11 cs and then use a template to create up to 10 cards)

ATC Background swap (these adorable trading cards make great add-ons to your projects. They are 3.5 x 2.5"

In other news- my dad's gangrene has completely healed- the experimental treatment's effectiveness has even amazed his doctor's -- it's so wonderful to see my dad back to his happy, playful self.

Work has been busy with a major software conversion for all of our online classes. And finally, I've been busy with Tennis boy- working to get his game better and his ranking higher.

I am just in love with the Time Well Spent stamp set - even though I'm not normally a flower person. Here's a card that I created for my last workshop and also for my COTM swaps this month.

I'm Back!

Wow, I hadn't realized how long it has been since I last posted. It has been an incredibly busy and hectic time. Here's a few updates:

Dad is doing muc better- the experimental treatment has been working and the gangrene in his foot is almost completely gone. He still has some health challenges in front of him but this is a huge improvement from December when doctors were saying he was going to need his leg amputated.
Andrea has once again been hit by Mono- this makes her 3rd time in 3 years and the doctor said this was the worst ever
Amadeus is doing well with tennis and we're back to our 5-6 day per week on the road which doesn't leave lots of time for stamping
And we have had a few new additions to the family (luckily, 3 out of 4 will be moving out soon!) See the picture for their cuteness (you may have to tilt your head to see them)

Odds and Ends

First, a blog candy update, the first winner of the blog candy hasn't replied in 2 weeks so I'm going to choose another name tomorrow, if I don't hear from the winner (check the blog candy post). Also, if Annelies could contact me, I had an error in your address when I took your prize to the post office to mail. I just want to make sure I have everything correct!

Also, I have one "batch" of ribbon left from the ribbon bundle that I offered in February. Cost is $77 total which will give you a minimum of 2 yards of every roll of ribbon in the catalog, most actually are 3 yards. These are cut, bundled and bagged by type. If you are interested, let me know and I will be glad to send a set your way.

Finally, not much stamping lately, I will post some pictures tomorrow from the most recent cards I received in the mail. I also completed a recipe swap for soup and will post those soon. Plus, my spring card front swap is coming in-just waiting for one more player to drop off cards so I will scan and post them as soon as I have them.

I'm on vacation Wed-Friday and plan to get in quite a bit of stamping then!

Good News Bad News

Well, I haven't been able to post in a few days- after the weekend in Birmingham, Amadeus has been sick with a sore throat, high fever, chills, etc. tested for strep and at least it's not that!! Hopefully its not the flu, which has been making the rounds. Anyway, between taking care of him and work, I've not had much time to do anything else.

On a positive note, Andrea's test results for leukemia came back negative (Yeah- that is a relief) but we still don't know what is causing the rapid weight loss, etc. so back for more tests soon.

Also, thanks to all who have been keeping my dad in their thoughts and prayers- it looks like the experimental treatment has really started to work- the gangrene on his foot is beginning to reverse itself. We are still "holding our breath" but things are looking much better than they did over the holidays.

Hopefully, I'll get some of my new projects posted soon.

We're back home from AL- here's a picture of my "tennis hobo" waiting outside the hotel for our ride to the matches. It was a great weekend for Ama and a real confidence booster- he won every singles match he played and tied in Mixed doubles today. The other team ended up bringing in some high school players in an attempt to try and stop Ama's winning streak- it didn't work LOL- he won his first match 6-2 and his second match 13-0 (these were timed matches and not the traditional best 2 out of 3). Can you tell I'm a proud mama!

I'm writing this from our hotel in less than balmy Birmingham, AL. We're here for a 2 day tennis match-up between my son's CTC group from Nashville, TN and the Birmingham players- it's sort of an end of the training year opportunity. When we left home yesterday it was in the 20's and frost was everywhere- the weather was forecast to be in the 60's here (Ha! ha!) so that's what everyone packed for- when we arrived temps stayed in the high 30's low 40s- I'll post a picture tonight of the kids. Thank goodness for the self-heating hot cocoa I found at Wal-Mart (smiile).

I also wanted to mention to any of you who live in the Gallatin/Hendersonville/North Nashville TN area- I have the best massage therapist in the world! If you ever have a real problem spot (my left side of my neck is the big trouble area), he does the best deep tissue healing massage. My neck was so bad that my regular doctor prescribed 4 therapeutic massages and wow has it made a difference. So, if you need a recommendation, ask for Darin at Massage Envy

Okay, it must be the cold and the cold meds- I also posted this to my work blog- I hope too many people didn't catch it.

Anyway, this card is a total CASE from LauraLynns card on SCS. I've included a link to a card and to the template.

The card is made from 1/2 sheet of CS cut vertically. The fold for the card is at the shoulders and the bottom is decorated with brads for onesie snaps. The middle embellishment is from the So Many Scallops SAB set. I hope you enjoy!

Black and White and Spirelli...

I have been looking for new ideas to "spice" up my classes and I also wanted fun and simple techniques that won't overwhelm someone just getting started. I think that Spirelli fits the bill. Do you remember playing with a Spirograph as a child? If so, you are already familiar with the Spirelli concept. Basically, you create a pattern by wrapping thread around a punched out image. The closer the thread is wrapped, the wider the center opening is. For the piece I used on this card, I punched a scrap of Real Red CS with our Scallop punch and then used the (now discontinued) silver cording to create the pattern. Using a piece of tape (or a glue dot), I taped the starting piece of cord to the back of the punched cs. Then I came up over the top counted five valleys (the little dips between scallops) wound back and then over, always working clockwise.

After the first try or two, it actually went quite quickly. The biggest challenge was keeping Breezy (the silly orange tabby) from helping!

The finished card uses Basic Black, Whisper White and Real Red CS, the Baroque Motifs set and the scallop punch. Simple, elegant, and multi-purpose.

I think I've just found my new favorite technique! At least for this week LOL! I was prepping for my Stamp a Stack this week and new that I had a good mix of experienced stampers and newbies attending so I wanted to show a simple technique that had a lot of "WOW" to it. I stumbled across the tutorial for Faux Silk over at SCS and decided I couldn't go wrong.

For this card, I used Wild Wasabi cs for the base and then layered my tissue paper piece on top of a Purely Pomegranate. I finished it off with some double-stitched Purely Pomegranate ribbon I had in my ribbon drawer. I stamped the image, From the Garden in Bravo Burgundy for a slightly lighter shade.

I'm pleased with it.

Fun with a Good Egg

I just love this set, A Good Egg, from the Spring/Summer collection. This is based on a card I saw on Splitcoast, but I stuck with all SU supplies. If you'd like to create it for yourself, here's what I used:

Barely Banana and Certainly Celery CS for the background and grass. Whisper White for everything else
Images were colored using the Brush end of the Basic Black marker and then stamped and colored using assorted Stamping Write markers
Sunglasses are from a retired set

We made this at Stamp a Stack today. If you'd like to join in the fun next month, mark your calendar for March 16!

Shaving Cream Anyone?

I signed up for a technique swap on the Tennessee Stampers group and chose the Shaving Cream Technique. This is one of my all time favorite techniques, especially when I'm a little stressed and need some good "clean" stamping fun.

If you'd like to try this technique, here's what you need:

Shaving cream (the less expensive the better), unscented, without any emollients. I've found that Barabasol in the red can works best
Re-inkers (I used Stampin' Up, but any dye based re-inker will work)
Glossy photo paper (you can use regular CS but it gets even messier)
Pie tins
Something to scrape with (I used my stoneware scrapper from Pampered Chef)

Now for the fun part. Follow these simple steps. I suggest having lots of paper towels around, too. It's best to mass produce this otherwise, you waste supplies and each page you make is very unique. I used my Pampered Chef baking racks to dry the paper on.

Here are the steps:

Spray a pile of shaving cream into the pie plate
Add drops from the re-inkers. I usually limit to 3 complementary colors. For this sample, I used Barely Banana, Bashful Blue and Gable Green.
Use a chopstick or knife to swirl the ink through the shaving cream. Be careful not to blend too much
Take your first piece of paper and smoosh it into the shaving cream mixture
Scrape the shaving cream off the paper
Take a paper towel to remove any extra shaving cream
Place on rack to dry

Here's the finished product. Once it dries (I usually let mine dry overnight) you can stamp on it, use it for a background, create a layout and more.

Things in Tennessee have been pretty interesting weather wise-- last week it was in the 70s with tornado's that tore through the state, today most of the county schools in our area (Middle Tennessee) are closed due to snow and ice. On top of that, lots and lots of kids are sick with a few different viruses (we're still recuperating from a stomach bug). I'm hoping that things will get back to normal soon and I can get back to stamping and posting on a daily basis.

However, here's a great card I received from my January COTM partner. I have also been working on several new cards for a class on Sunday and will be posting a few of those soon (don't want to share all of them though- what fun will my class have then?)

Love this little gift card I received from my SUDSOL Card swap partner. With this crazy weather, too, the penguin fits right in and of course, next to dragons, penguins are my second favorite "creature" to collect.

I really like the choice of colors. The gift card holder is constructed so the gift card is invisible but you pull the ribbon and out pops a surprise!

It was a great mail day yesterday and the day before, I'm working on getting those images uploaded. I wanted to share this one from my Feb. Monday Mailer partner Trina. This card is actually a two part card- one is a faux enelope with the cutest tabbed insert. The card was made with the Happy Heart day set, scallop punch and tab punch. The picture doesn't do the elephant justice- it just sparkles!!

Give me your tired, your scared...

...your friends that live in apartments. Taking a short break this morning to just post an update on life in Sumner county. Last night, Tennessee got hit but another string of tornado's. Memories of the tornado that destroyed my car, my work, and my town two years ago were flashing through my head as I watched the news and made sure that we were as prepared as we could be. One of the features of our house that I really like is the "cinder block" closet in my daughter's room and our "secret" room in the basement (aka the Stamp room) both of these are interior rooms in the basement and about the best place to go in case of a tornado.

Anyway, our emergency preparedness kit consisted of a 6 pack of bottled water, chocolate bars, cookies, pop-tarts, my sons' tennis bag (that's where the first aid kit is!), my digital camera and some flashlights, candles and matches (hmmm- maybe I ought to be a little more prepared). Anyway, having learned my lesson a few years ago, when weatherbug said a tornado is coming your way, like most people I didn't really pay attention- I should have and the message should have been, A tornado is coming to get you NOW! we watched the news and when they said Hendersonville, 9:49 p.m. we were locked in the closet ready to go (3 people and 4 cats- just imagine!). Called my sister about 10 minutes later and we got the all clear.

Later on, my daughter had most of her friends who live in apartments come over to spend the night (2 more storms were projected). We took turns watching the news- my last thoughts were about 1:30 a.m. when I finally drifted off to sleep to news of the fire in Macon County.

We're safe and I will keep you updated.

My First ATC

What do you think? I'm pretty pleased for my first try at making an ATC (artist trading card). For those of you who are unfamilar with ATC's (I was until a few weeks ago), these are miniature works of art- there are a few rules to ATC's"

1. The size must be 2.5" x 3.5 " inches
2. They can only be swapped or traded
3. Each ATC is marked, just like a limited edition piece of art- in this case, I created 3 so one lucky person received 1 /3, etc.

This was created for a swap hosted on the TNStampers list. It was called a Same But Different Swap. Each player received an envelope of stamped images and had to create three ATC's by adding their own supplies. We all did an Alice in Wonderland theme. (which happens to be a favorite of mine since I was Tweedledee in high school when we put on a production of Alice).

I colored the queen then added some fun Heart ribbon that I purchased at Wal-mart and some Purple Mulberry paper to give the background a little more regal feel. I also added a sparkling brad to her outfit.

So, what do you think? any suggestions for improving her? Any good recommendations for books or sites to learn more about ATC's- I can see where it would be easy to get hooked!

A New Look at a Favorite Template

It's been a busy craft weekend around the house. I'm almost caught up on all of my swap commitments. Today's card is a new take on a favorite template. I've included a link to the pattern for you. It uses a half circle to draw attention to the cards. This particular card was created for a demo only swap on Splitcoast Stampers. The only requirement was to use a new set from the Spring/Summer collection. I chose the level three hostess set, Time Well Spent which is turning out to be one of my favorites (surprising, since I'm not usually a flower type of person). All of the coloring on this card was done using Watercolor Wonder crayons and an aqua painter. I just love the look I can achieve with them.

I also learned painting miniature figurines, my son, enjoyes the book and game called Warhammer 40k. He is going to be playing this with a group of other homeschool boys, regularly and so he needed his army. We'll be painting minatures for quite some time. It's a good thing I like doing detail work.

Sorry for not posting more this weekend, between 2 sick kids (stomach virus), the doubles tournament (Ama took a line drive straight to the chest when playing the net), and wathing the MTSU Men's tennis team on Sunday, it's been insane. However, my good friend Kellie came to the rescue and said I could share this cute card my friend she made at her Stamp a Stack this weekend.

Pink and Brown have got to be one of my favorite color combinations, especially when making a card. This was created for a friend's birthday. They love Chocolate but are on a diet and can't eat any chocolate cake, so, the next best thing- a stamped chocolate cake- in hindsight, I should have added a little scratch and sniff action with some cocoa.

Quick Card

I needed a quick birthday card for a male friend of mine. I figured you can't go wrong with black and white so I used the SAB Birthday Whimsy set for this one.

This was so easy to create. I used Very Vanilla for the base and for the image, double looped a piece of silver cord around the vanilla and mounted it to a black rectangle then mounted this to the base. Stamped "Happy Birthday" and Voila!

The Birthday Whimsy set will be available only from Feb. 1- March 17 during SU's annual Sell-a-bration. The set can't be purchased but you can get it for FREE with a qualifying $50 order during SAB!

This Week's Technique: Using Dimensionals

This week's technique is easy and one that everyone can create a card using. Pull out your Stampin' Dimensionals (pop-dots) and see what you can create with them. Here are a few uses to help get you started:

Use them to add height to a card (see the Time Well Spent card for one example)
Use them to draw attention to a section of a card (for example in the spotlighting technique)
Dip the top side of a dimensional in glitter and adhere to a flower for a little extra sparkle in the middle
Don't just use the big dot, the smaller remains on the sides of the dot page are perfect for adhering to skinny spots such as stems, and butterfly middles
Use these to create pocket pages or when making shaker cards
Perfect for creating slider cards, using the dimensionals to create some distance in the pennies that you use for sliding

Time Well Spent...

Yesterday was another cold day in TN and I was looking for something to warm me up! Thoughts of spring and butterflies filled my head and here's what I came up with, using the Time Well Spent set.

I liked the card so much, we also did a variation on it with my stampin group yesterday afternoon and I will be sending this to my SUStar partner for our Monday Mailer (being mailed on Tuesday though!).
The card was simple and I got to play with a my new Felt flowers (I love them!).

Here's what you need to re-create this card:

Stamps: Time Well Spent (hint this is a hostess set so if you like it, why not host a workshop in Feb., during Sell-a-bration- you can earn this and more free sets!)
CS: Wild Wasabi, Very Vanilla, DSP
Ink: Basic black, Wild Wasabi, Tempting Turquoise, Only Orange, YoYo Yellow
Other: Flower Fusion, dimenstionals (to layer the top butterfly), silver brad

Faux Linen Attempt II

Here's my next attempt at Faux Linen- this card was Case'd from Splitcoast Stampers. I'm not sure if I like it, but my daughter really thought it looked good.

CS: Creamy Caramel, glossy white
Ink: Coral, Ruby Red, Garden Green, Creamy Caramel
Technique: Faux Linen- sand the cardstock vertically, then horizontally until all the gloss is removed. Sponge ink over base, then stamp images

Faux Linen- 1st Attempt

Here's my first attempt at the Faux Linen technique. I don't think I got the camera close enough to the image to really see it but the first layer (closes to the card base, uses the technique). Here's what you need to make this cute little card. I also got a little carried away with the Dazzling Diamonds but as my daughter says, "You Can NEVER Have TOO Much Sparkle".

Technique: Faux Linen
Stamps: Happy Heart Day
Inks: Basic Black, Basic Grey, Pink Passion, Lavendar Lace, Pixie Pink, Green
Galore
CS: Whisper White, Green Galore, Glossy, Almost Amethyst

This Week's Card Technique/Challenge

I was bored last night (no internet access - still) and not really in the mood to do anything (well maybe eat some chocolate!) While I was waiting for my son to get home from Basketball practice, I decided it was time for a new stamping idea/motivation. I pulled out some back issues of Stamp and Scrap and also Rubber Stampede (I think) to get the creative juices flowing. Here's the technique for you to try:

Faux Linen

Step 1- grab some glossy cardstock and stamp your background image(s) in versamark
Step 2- find some medium grit sandpaper and gently sand up the page
Step 3 - using the same sandpaper sand across the page
Step 4- make sure all the gloss is removed
Step 5- find your sponge dauber and your Creamy Caramel ink pad, gently splot the carmel on the paper
Step 6 - find your handy stamping sponge and smooth the color over the paper- the sanding has made areas for the ink to "catch"
Step 7 - use your finger (or a brush) to highlight some areas (add a little more color)
Step 8 - finish your card
Step 9 - Post a link to your finished card in the comments for the world to see!

Sorry for not posting much- it's been a busy few weeks. Celebrated my dad's 80th birthday this weekend which included a visit from my brother (he lives in MD and we only see him once a year). It was a great day and it seems like the experimental treatment dad is doing is beginning to help a little- at least the gangrene isn't spreading and he's only in moderate pain. The doctor's all still are amazed that he is with us (I'm very grateful that he is!).

Our ISP (Comcast) has been down for the past 2 days (well, up for a few minutes down for a few hours)- I'll be calling them today and hopefully I can get online to post some of my newest creations.

In the meantime- happy stamping and watch for this week's card challenge.

I just wanted to share this beautiful card that I received in the mail the other day. First, I was a little shocked - I didn't recognize the address and when I opened the card, it was a sympathy card! After everything that has been going on with my dad, my first thought was - hmm did something happen that I didn't know about? When I opened the card, there was a very nice note explaining why...

New Valentine set!

Wow, what a week this has been. Classes started today at the college and I have been living on the computer the past few days helping faculty get ready. I did find a few minutes to stamp though and wanted to show you one of the cards that I "CASE'd" from splitcoast. This card uses the Happy Heart Day set- which is also part of the great Valentine's Bundle available to you this month.

Fun times, I wanted to use this set for my monthly card club on Thursday- of course it didn't arrive until Thursday but all went well. We made 3 cards including this cute little number (using the mouse stamp) real read, and basic black plus whisper white for the image.

We also made two other cards (I'll post one tomorrow) and 2 cello bag toppers for a cello bag we filled with chocolate. Plus 3 stone magnets.

Sorry for not posting more this week- things settle down on Tuesday.

Now that I have a working camera, I wanted to take a moment and share a couple of holiday cards that I received. Both of these would be great for winter cards, too (well with weather in TN in the 70's it's hard to picture penguins or snowmen but....)

Yesterday's Creation

Here are the pictures from my efforts last night. I picked up my copy of Take Ten (Fall 2007) and saw a gorgeous card using the Doodle This stamp set. I altered the card a little bit and created two versions.

This card is made with YoYo Yellow, Lovely Lilac, Only Orange, and Whisper White CS.

I stamped the curliques on white and then outlined and colored using my Bold Brights watercolor crayons. Then I stamped the two flowers on a scrap piece of white and also colored in with watercolor crayons. I cut a piece of Lilac in a half circle and stamped the curlique in versamark.

Mounted the larger flower on a small square of orange and tied the black gingham around the white and lilac before mounting to the yellow. Finishing touch was some Dazzling Diamonds on the flowers.

This variation uses the same color palette but with a few alterations. Instead of using gingham ribbon, I left the ribbon off. I also took away the orange square and instead cut out and colored two large flowers and layered them. I glued these together and attached with a pop dot for a slightly different look.

Week 2 Challenge- Spotlight Technique

This week's challenge is another one of my favorites, but I haven't used it in a long time.

Create a card using the "Spotlight" technique.

Here's how:

Stamp your main image twice(this works best with a slightly larger and more complicated image- for example a nature scene, a large butterfly, etc.)

The first image is stamped on cs and not colored, etc
The second image can be stamped on a piece of scrap paper (match the paper of the main image) since you will only use a portion of this.

Grab a set of punches (I use the CM 2 in one punches)
Using the smaller punch, punch out a portion of the image you stamped on scrap paper. Color this in
Using the larger punch (same shape) punch out a piece of cs (typically black)
Mount the smaller stamped and colored image on this paper
Using a pop dot, mount this over the corresponding place on your main image.
The effect would be similar to looking at something through a magnifying glass.

Deal of the Day

First, I did get to make a few cards today- actually several. I finished my OSW project and I finished my swap cards. 6 for the TNStampers Bird Swap and 2 for the SUDSOL COTM swap. I also purchased a great used digital camera which I'll be picking up Monday or Tuesday so this has been a great day. (Pictures coming soon!)

The best thing was the Deal of the Day- my friend Kellie J was in Wal-mart when she called to ask if I'd like a stamping tote bag- my choice of pink with brown trim or turquoise with brown trim. Each tote also included a pair of decorative scissors, a hole punch, glitter glue, paper, 3 mini stamps and a stamping spot, embellishments and more. The whole wonderful package was (drum roll) $4.97!! Well, who could resist.

If you need a gift for a stamper or scrapper in your life or just need a new tote- you might want to check out your local Wal-mart :)

Cleaning Out the Stamping Closet

I don't know if its the colder weather that has me in a crafty mood or if it's the start of the new year. However, I'm going to go with the flow while the muse is with me.

I made a commitment to myself that I would work on one project per night (not necessarily finish it!). Tonight, after helping Amadeus with his algebra homework (yuck), and then watching the Celebrity Apprentice (the task was marketing a hot dog stand in NYC- I thought I might be able to use some of it for a Hospitality Marketing class I'm teaching this semester- not). I started cleaning.

This past summer, I participated in one of the most fun Yahoogroups ever- it only lasts for a few months and there are tons of swaps including Hotel Roomies, Secret sisters and lots and lots of projects. The group is open to SU demo's and customers- primarily those of us who can't attend convention.

Anyway, one of the swaps was for OSW (one sheet wonders). Well, I found my stash of papers and decided its time to do something with them. For those of you who aren't familiar with the OSW concept- it's great. You choose a stamp set and just randomly stamp all over a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper (or even 12x12). Then you can either use a template or do your own thing and make up to 10 cards from one page (of course you'll need accessories, extra cs, and adhesive).

Tomorrow, I'll post my first card (or more if I get them done!). The set I am using is a retired set but one of my favorites. It's from SU and called, Natural Beauty (just retired this year). Paper is Confetti white and the ink is Brilliant Blue, Green Galore, Real Red, and Pink Passion.

This Week's Challenge- New Year, New Technique

How are you progressing on this week's challenge to create a card or scrapbook page using a technique that is new to you?

I've actually done pretty well so far. I've tried updating my old favorite of Crayon Resist- I apologize for the backwards pic. I don't have a working camera yet so I used the built in webcam on the laptop and then did a little bit of editing in Fireworks.

The card was created using the new Time Well Spent set (hostess level 3). Card base is pixie pink. Images were stamped on glossy white and then I highlighted areas using a crayon. Then I sponged on an assortment of pinks and purples to get the desired background effect. The stems and leaves were colored using Always Artichoke and Old Olive. I then mounted this on Basic Black. "Thank You" is from the Wonderful Words set.

Snowflake Challenge

One of the groups that I belong to, Tennessee Stampers has a series of challenges for its members. This card was made for the monthly COTM. The theme for this month was snowflakes. I used my retired Flaky Friends set to create the card. The snowmen were stamped on Whisper White and colored in with assorted markers. Then I used some Liquid Applique to make some of the snowflakes "pop" along with the snow at the base of the snowmen and the trim on the "Santa" hat. I finished up the card by adding some liquid applique to random flakes and then using Dazzling Diamonds to add a little sparkle.

Inside the card is stamped with "Some of my best friends are flakes".

Background is Night of Navy.

Much to my surprise, I spent the day at the car lot with my daugther. Her car was on its last legs and she just wanted my opinion- 3 hours later-- and she's now the proud owner of a 2003 Jeep Cherokee Overland in Cherry Red (well the car paperwork says Burgundy) but...
anyway, here's a generic picture from the MotorTrend website. I'll post a picture of her car as soon as I get one...

Happy New Year's Eve

As the year winds to an end, it's always nice to step back and just reflect on the past year's high's and low's. This year has been wonderful in many ways- new challenges at work, lots of new friends made through stamping, my sons continuing progress in tennis and finding a great new set of coaches that click with his style.

Of course, there have also been low's- my father's continuing declining health, my daughter's own unique set of health issues and her taking time off from college, a crazy fall semester with two new computer systems that drove staff and students crazy....

Tonight I got the chance to stamp with my best buddy Kellie. We completed several sets of calendars- we didn't get to make any at the class on Saturday and just spend some time talking. Watch out- we've got lots of cool stuff planned for the next year!

Finally, I wanted to post some of the projects I made- alas, my camera has gone crazy. Hopefully tomorrow- new year- new camera??

New Year's Challenge

I've been thinking about my blog a lot lately and reading several other stamping blogs. I'd like to make this site more exciting and useful to those who stop by. So my first goal for the new year is to offer a weekly challenge. The challenge will run from Sunday- Saturday. I decided to take a break from just about everything today--instead of stamping, working on the computer or cleaning, I took a day for "me". The big find of the day- an affordable massage. My friend Celeste recommended this to me and I had to check it out. Wow- it was worth the trip. I went to Massage Envy (turns out- this is a nationwide chain) and the massage was affordable and my therapist Michelle was wonderful.

Here's the cool part (and while it is a splurge for me, I figure it will be worth eating lunch at my desk a couple more times a month). They are a membership based program (kind of like a gym) - it's $49 a month but that also includes one massage a month - and if I want more, it's only $39 per hour.

I would recommend checking them out (and if you decide to become a member- if you mention my name- I get a free massage)- so I thank you in advance!!

Here's a link to their website - I had the relaxing massage but I believe the deep tissue will be better in the future.

Calendar Class a Success

Just a quick post- the calendar class was a huge success. Everyone seemed to have a great time and we are already planning the Valentine's class and of course the new catty kickoff- more to come on that. I thought I'd share a couple of pictures from this evening. More tomorrow- time for bed now.

Poor Sharon, everytime she went to work on a page, we had already cleaned up the supplies! We finally got our act together :)

And Now for Something Completely Different...

The cards have been finished, almost all the gifts have been completed and wrapped and the only thing left was to bake. Last night, my stamping table became the bake shop. My daughter (on the left) is a wonderful baker and made batches of Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip and Sugar Cookies. The sugar cookies turned out to be the most fun as we all ended up in a flour fight. You can see my two wonderful kids playing- wait til you see what they did to me! After we cleaned up, Andrea also made a pumpkin pie for my dad and tonight we'll have Oatmeal Raisin cookies.

Don't I look wonderful?

Here's the recipe for her Peanut Butter Cookies:

1/4 pound (1 stick butter)
1/2 cup chunky peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup flour

Preheat oven to 350 and grease cookie sheets Cream the butter and peanut butter together. Beat in the 2 sugars, then add the egg and the vanilla and mix well. Mix together the salt, baking soda, and flour and add to the first mixture. Combine thoroughly. Drop by spoonful on baking sheet about 1 1/2 inches apart. press each one flat with the bake of a fork. Bake about 7 minutes or until firm. Allow to cool slightly then move to cooling rack.

These are the best!

Calendar Class- December 27

12 Days of Christmas Days 7 and 8

This swap has been so much fun! I have not only been inspired by the talent and creativity, but I now have a list of new techniques I want to try in 2008! It's so good to want to learn new things and branch out of the everyday comfort zone.

Day 7 brought an adorable Christmas album with all the pages already created. One of my biggest complaints this year has been about my lack of time for scrapping- this will make that task easy. All I need to do is print my pictures and 2007 is in the book! I'll post the finished product after the holidays!

Day 8 was an altered CD ornament by Teresa. I really like how she used a variety of papers and textures to create a unique one of a kind holiday treasure. Notice the beading on the bottom? Very nice. I've already got this on display and think that Altered CD's will have to be a class very soon.

I'm so glad that Teresa has been uploading pictures of all the great gifts on her blog, since I haven't had a chance to get a battery for my camera yet, I've been borrowing her pics. Two more great gifts in the last two days.

Yesterday was an adorable Christmas tree ornament. It looks like it is made from felt with decorations and a Lovely saying.

Todays was another domino pin (I have got to learn how to do these!). This pin was all done up in red with the cutest little Santa.

I'm so pleased to have been invited to play in this swap. A very talented bunch of ladies!

12 Days of Christmas Swap - Day 4

Received the cutest little gift for Day 4 yesterday. Believe it or not, this is a post it note pad holder with a place for a pen (on top). Since I never have anything to write on when I'm at the computer and the cats always steal my pen. This will be perfect.

The holder is made out of fabric with gold trim across the top. The entire thing is closed by a strip of velcro across the top (hmmm, if I could only velcro my cat when he tries to steal my pen...). I'm already getting ideas for next year's gifts.

12 Days of Christmas Day 3

Here's a sample of one of the neat pins that was sent for the 12 Days of Christmas swap. I'll post mine as soon as I get new batteries for my camera.

I'm not sure of the exact technique, but the pin was made using a domino. Mine is gorgeous!

Holiday Project- Stamped Tile

Again, the picture doesn't do this justice. I was working on some last minute Christmas gifts and found some leftover ceramic tiles that I had used for a stamp camp earlier this year.

I pulled out my Flaky Friends set (so sorry to see them retiring!)- grabbed my black stazon and some sharpies and here's what I created.

After stamping and letting the ink dry, I popped the tiles in the oven at 200 F for about 7 minutes to set the ink.

Total time to complete the project was about 15 minutes (including coloring and baking).

12 Days of Christmas - Day 2

My picture does NOT do this beautiful notebook justice. It's a perfect mini notebook to keep in my purse to jot down random thoughts or capture the moment in words.

It is covered with a beautiful green paper, with LOVE in gold across the front and then assorted other papers added.

The creator was Pat Mills.

12 Days of Christmas Swap

I had the best time making the Santa Popcorn holders for the 12 Days of Christmas swap that I participated in. The swap was hosted by Teresa Pillow (another member of the TNStampers group). She was short a few players and asked for volunteers.

December COTM

Things have finally started slowing down a bit and I've actually been busy stamping. With any luck, I'll even have my holiday cards in the mail by next weekend!

Here's a picture of the card I sent to my TNStampers COTM partner. All items are SU- this simple but elegant card started with the image embossed with Gold EP, layered on Bravo Burgundy with a Burgundy ribbon. This is layered on the wonderful Gold textured paper and finished by layering on white.

Cookie Exchange

We had our 3rd annual Cookie Exchange today. Here's some of the group- if you look very closely, I'm the one hiding in the back next to Kellie.

We invited 3 of the "guys" to judge and they had fun. Cookies were judged in two categories, taste and display. Sadly, I didn't win either category. But it was still fun.

My container was created using a small take out box, then stamped with a retired SU set (one side had a wreath and the other a snowglobe). Here's the wreath side.

Brown and Orange Swap

Earlier this fall, before my dad got sick, I hosted a Brown/Orange swap. The only rules were Brown and Orange had to be incorporated into the card. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures of all the cards received, however, I did remember to photograph 4 of them. The two cards showcased today were created by the extremely talented Susan Brandt. Be sure to visit her website to see samples of her watercolors. The top card has a paperpieced turkey as the focal point with hemp for emphasis. The bottom card also uses a paper piecing technique and matching fiber to highlight the colors. More cards tomorrow.

Cookie Time

Okay, so it's nearly 70 degree's outside and the middle of December. Now, I don't mind the fact that I'm not stuck in an ice storm like my friends back home in the Midwest but the thought of baking just isn't doing it for me right now LOL-- anyway, I've got to come up with cookies for a cookie swap at work on Thursday and thought these tempting little morsels would be just fine. No need to worry about how they look, no need to heat up the house with the oven and they are chocolate!!

Here's the recipe in case you want to try some, too.

4 Tablespoons butter
1/2 cup whole milk
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

In a sauce pan placed over medium heat, combine the butter, milk and sugar. Stir well until the butter is melted and bring to a light boil.

Add the chocolate chips and rolled oats. Mix until the chocolate chips melt, combine with the sugar and coat the oats. Add the vanilla and stir.

Using a tablespoon, scoop up some of the batter and drop onto wax or parchment paper. Allow to cool. You can refrigerate to speed up the solidification.

Makes 2 1/2 to 3 dozen cookies

Winter Wonderland Card

I apologize for the flash splotch in the middle of the card- I'll see if I can re-do this photo but I wnated to get something up for you in case you haven't started your holiday cards yet.

This is a simple card to make, but offers a touch of elegance for any occasion. All products are Stampin' Up. The images are from the "Lovely as a Tree" set. They are stamped on Glossy White (I used photo paper) using black Stazon. After allowing the Stazon to dry, I used a masking technique to cover the bottom portion of the card to retain the white "snow" bottom and then used my brayer to brayer the top of the card. Apply several layers of ink until you acheive the color you want. Then use a corner punch for two layers and mount the cards. For a finishing touch, I used a little 2 way glue and dazzling diamonds.

I think this is one of my favorites so far.

Finally, I'm beginning to feel the holiday spirit. I wanted to share a few of my favorite cards from the Christmas swap I just finished hosting. While SU stamps were encouraged, participants could use any Christmas theme. This card looks even better in person, with the assorted shiny threads and the contrast of colors and textures. Susan B. was the designer of this one. You might want to check out her blog, too for more great art ideas.

The picture doesn't do this card justice either. Steph created a wonderful shaker card. When you have the card in your hand, it feels like you could be playing with a snow globe. For a tutorial on making shaker cards look here.

Kellie's card is a great sample for how to make a quick, easy card for those last minute, mass production nights. If you haven't started making your cards yet, you may want to consider this. Using the Letterpress stamp set from SU and some gold cord, you can make several of these in one night.

New Update

Just a very quick update on my dad's condition. He has decided that surgery is not worth the risk and has decided to forgo the operation. This means that he will most likely die from the gangrene that is setting in. We are hoping that he will at least make it to Christmas --if you don't mind, please keep our family in your thoughts as we work through this.

Quick Holiday Idea- Make Your Own Wrapping Paper

Why spend lots of dollars on store bought wrapping paper when you have almost everything you need right at hand.

Here's a quick fun way to make your own wrapping paper-

Purchase a roll of plain paper
Use a jumbo wheel (some great options in the catalog) and with the retiring list out- get them now while you can
Use a basic ink
Roll the wheel over the paper
Finished!

This is also a great way to get little hands involved in the process- you could even let the roll their own paper and then color it in.

Quick Dad update

Just a quick update- I'll be scanning a few of the swap cards in tonight when I get home so watch for some fun ideas.

As for Dad, the saga continues. We met with the cardio/thoracic surgeon yesterday- the news was not promising. At the very least, Dad will have most of his right leg amputated. In addition, he may need to have additional by-pass surgery to open up the stent in his leg - right now he has almost 0% blood flow in either leg. The Gangrene seems to be stable at the moment but surgery needs to occur within the next few weeks.

I'll have more later.

Will I Ever Get to Stamp? Hmm...

Well, so much for stamping this weekend, although I was able to work on the Holiday Helper newsletter a bit more. Be sure to check your email for all kinds of fun projects. Hopefully tonight I will bet a chance to stamp!

This weekend turned into Sick Bay at our house- first the cat got sick (for those of you who have been over- it was Princess- the large calico)- she had a fever of 105 and may be diabetic. We've been joking that she and my dad can run around in wheelchairs together if she ever needs surgery!

Then Amadeus got really sick this weekend at his tournament- stomach bug and a nosebleed that wouldn't stop! He ended up mildlly dehydrated, no tennis for 3 days and the worst part was he had to default his match when he was 2 points from winning....sigh.. Oh well- tonight I shall stamp!

Further Dad updates- back to Stamping this weekend!

Just a new update- Dad had the angiogram yesterday- good news was- he came through the procedure just fine. Bad news is there is 100% blockage in the right leg and 80% blockage in the left. We meet with the cardio-vascular surgeon who did the bypass last year on Wed. to look at options. At the moment- none of the choices are great. There is a possbility of doing another by-pass (unfortunately a low rate of success and a high probability of not making it off the table), option 2 is amputation of most of the right leg and option 3 is to do nothing and die from gangrene.

Although dad was originally against any more surgery, he's starting to think that amputation may not be so bad as dying. Thanks for all your emails and support. I'll keep you posted.

Tomorrow, I'll be working on Christmas cards and will be sure to post the creations! Need to get everything done just in case...

Update on Dad

Quick personal update here- spent the day with Dad- his muscle strength has rapidly deteriorated since a week ago. Saw another of his doctor's today. He was concerned (aren't we all) but apparently not as concerned as we are. Added a few more meds to the regimen and scheduled the "gram" (not sure if it's angio or arterio) for a week from Friday. In the meantime, the foot continues to get worse. We'll see what happens....

Santa Popcorn holder

I found this idea on the My Creative Corner blog and tweaked it a little for my needs. I am participating in a 12 Days of Christmas swap and needed a quick, small, flat gift to use and then Ama needed some quick little coaches gifts and since most of the coaches running the tennis clinic are college players, I thought they could enjoy some microwave popcorn.

The original instructions can be found here. I was running short of black cs (oops!) and so instead of making a complete belly band, I actually glued the flaps shut and then just made a Faux belly band (covering just the front of the holder). I also decreased Santa's buttons to 2. I don't think anyone will notice :)

I had a little bit of a challenge making the gold belt buckle, luckily, I was able to find my 2 different CM square punches. My first try, I punched using the 2 larger squares, but found the buckle hung over the belt. My second try, I followed the instructions and used the 3/4" punch and then the 1 1/4" punch. The hardest part was lining things up. Overall, I think they turned out well and I was able to use up some of my scrap paper, too!

I added a quick little tag using Flaky Friends (from SU)- colored the snowmen's scarves in blue to match the MTSU colors and now I have some quick coaches gifts!

I'm still working on some ideas for Richard and David (the main coaches) any suggestions on how to creatively dress up a case of Coca-cola?

3D Ornament

If life ever gets back to normal, I hope to post more regularly and get back on track with my monthly classes. First, a quick update on life around the Nunaley household.

Last week was a week of goods and not so good things happening. First, my dear friend (and SU buddy) Patti Keitzman husband passed away just before Thanksgiving from Pancreatic Cancer. This was quite a shock.

On a family note, my dad's gangrene returned - the bypass that was done last year to open up the circulation in his leg has failed and he is looking at extensive surgery again- possibly later this week. Please keep him in your thoughts.

On a positive note, Amadeus played in his first high level regional tennis tournament- while he didn't win, he was able to hang in there with the players and I believe that next year will bring very different results.

Finally, I wanted to share this quick project with you- it's the 3D ornament from the SU catalog (which will be replaced on Jan. 1). There was a great tutorial on the Paper Pleasing Idea's blog that I thought you would enjoy! I'm going to be making a bunch of these this week as holiday gift toppers!

Been very busy stamping and working on ideas for the upcoming craft fairs and stamp camp but took some time away from the stamp table to visit Rock City, GA and the Incline Railroad in Chattanooga, TN this weekend. If I had known there was also a rubber stamp and scrapbook convention going on, I would have left Ama at the tennis courts and had some fun shopping!

Overall, it was a great weekend- got to take lots of pictures and have an idea brewing for a neat little gift album. If it works out, I'll share it with you.

If you happen to belong to a yahoo group or maybe have a facebook or myspace account, then this site might be of interest to you. The site is called Craftgate.

This site is designed with the crafter in mind and provides more opportunities to connect with like minded crafters around the globe. I did a quick search just for stamping and found 2 categories, including one for swaps, I was really interested in exploring the altered art links.

I'm working on some ideas for an upcoming Stamp Camp and need your opinion, please. When attending a holiday stamp camp- do you prefer to make cards, projects or a combination of both? Also, would you prefer to make projects that can be easily re-created at home for quick gifts or would you rather create a few "WOW" projects?

I know what my preferences are but I really don't know what everyone else likes to do. Please share your thoughts here.

Thanks to my friend Celeste for sending me to this site- it's a user created Wiki for everything Scrapbook related hosted by Better Homes and Gardens.

The Site is called Scrapbooks, Etc.
and is a great resource.

If you're not sure what a Wiki is (thinkWikipedia) it's a place to share knowledge and users can edit the information until there is common agreement. Wiki's are becoming more and more common as teachers use the to support classroom learning and kids use them to build up a repository of information for their favorite games and hobbies. Check it out and let me know what you think!

WCMD Update and Coming Events

So, how did your WCMD go? Did you get a chance to make any cards? Based on the emails I have received from you, it looks like last Saturday wasn't a great day for Card making but more and more people are getting ready for the holidays.

As a reminder, our Holiday Stamp Camp will be happening in Gallatin, TN on Nov. 1- I'll be sure to share some samples from there as the time gets closer- would love to have you join us and if you can't make it, leave a post and I can send you a stamp camp kit in the mail- all the supplies and instructions so you can still have some craft time.

I'm also going to be on the road more now that tennis is finally winding down a bit. Oct. 27 I'll be in Cleveland, TN at a crop and will be demonstrating some ideas for Holiday Tags. Once I get my camera working again, I'll post those samples for you.

Nov. 1 of course is Stamp Camp. The remainder of the week will be back to tennis as Amadeus and I volunteer at the Music City Challenger Tournament (it's a $50,000 pot and brings some of the best professional players ranked between 300 and 100 in the world). We do this every year and it is a blast.

Next stop is the League of Innovations Conference on Information Technology- I'm one of the committee chairs so no stamping during those days. As soon as that finishes, its back to stamping with our Chipboard Fun class, again in Gallatin on November 15. Check my website for more details .

The month winds down with a Christmas Stamp a Stack on Tuesday November 27, again in Gallatin.
